I am not a DIY enthusiast, neither am I a renovation champion. Every step back as our loft conversion was under way felt like some sort of betrayal of my trust. Every single time yet another decision had to be made, I wished someone else would step in and make it for me.
It does not mean I am against having work done in my home; I just wish it could be done in a heartbeat as by magic, with no mess involved or too many decisions to make. I need lots of money, an interior designer and an efficient project manager who would do it all for me, don’t I?
Now that we have a shiny new space upstairs, guess what? The rest of the house looks shabby. Not, “Urgh! I hate this place” kind of thing, more of: “it all needs a bit of an upgrade” sort of feeling.
Our kitchen is exactly as it was when we moved in over eight years ago, extra shelving, blender and toaster aside. It is probably the room in which I spend the most time. I do love it, but it is so small and full of stuff it is starting to feel claustrophobic.
When you love cooking, you tend to gather every gadget known to man in the kitchen, no matter how much you would love to be minimalistic. Now the upstairs can comfortably accommodate the six of us, what I am longing for is a bit of an open space downstairs, so that our middle room, kitchen and back garden become one large and seamless living space.
My sister-in-law and her husband restore houses for a hobby, you see. I do not envy them in any way, but I gather tips and ideas along the way. In the 12 years I have known them, they have turned three average houses into stunning properties. They do work incredibly hard, and it shows: once finished, the houses are unrecognisable. One thing they seem to do every single time is swap the PVC windows for wooden ones. I find that wood windows always give a high quality feel to newly decorated rooms.
I am dreaming of a kitchen with a Smeg fridge, a large freezer, more cupboards than I could imagine and a range cooker. I would love wooden bi-folding doors at the back, to turn the garden and the kitchen into one large space. I think I would go for dual-coloured ones so that I could go for a colour on the inside and a more wooden feel on the outside. The beauty of wood windows is that I could simply redecorate them if I decided to change my colour scheme later on.

I am not sure what style of kitchen I would go for; I seem to fall in love with every kitchen I see on Pinterest, but one thing is for sure: I would really like a window over the sink.

That picture is my dream kitchen. I’m obsessed with that colour of wood, the bi-fold doors and that light airy feel….a girl can dream!
I can already picture myself in that kitchen! Must work even more if I want it before I am 60!
Je crois que on a vraiment les mêmes goûts! Tu as décrit ma cuisine idéal!
Love that dream kitchen but yours is lovely too. I adore our kitchen but I want to do stufff to the upstairs, just waiting on wooden flooring, DIY is so expensive! x
It is! I’d love oak floors all around the house. A girl can dream, right?
I can’t wait to own my own house so I can makeover the kitchen, my rented kitchen is so tiny! These pictures are beautiful.
A kitchen makeover is definitely next on my list, if I ever have the money to do it!
This design is spectacular! You definitely know how to keep a reader entertained.
Between your wit and your videos, I was almost
moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Excellent job.
I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it.
Too cool!
Thanks, that’s really kind of you!
