The weather has been all over the place, hasn’t it?
One minute, you are splashing the kids with the garden hose under the sunshine; the next, you are running back inside to hide from the hailstones… The changing weather has inspired us to make cloud and raindrop cushions. They are so quick and easy to make it took less than an hour to put all three together.
What You Need:
Fabric of your choice
Dressmaker pencil
Pins
Scissors
Embroidery thread and embroidery needle
Thread and needle – it will save a lot of time if you have a sewing machine
Stuffing (we used stuffing taken out of an old cushion)
What to Do:
Fold your fabric in 2 so the right (printed) sides are together.
Roughly draw a cloud shape, keeping in mind that about 1 cm is your seam allowance, keeping in mind the cushion will be smaller than your drawing.
Cut around your pencil marks.
On one of the wrong sides, draw a smile and eyes with the dressmaker pencil, and then hand stitch using the embroidery thread and needle.
Pin the right sides together, leaving some space for a small gap (about an inch / 2.5cm) in a corner at the bottom.
Stitch all around, leaving a 1cm seam allowance and making sure you keep the gap at the bottom.
Turn the fabric inside out, using the gap you left.
Fill with stuffing and sew closed by hand.
All done!
