Wake up to Organic! Organic breakfast, anyone?
If I could afford to eat and feed my children organic food only, I would switch to an all-organic lifestyle right away. Not only does organic food taste better, but I also find the thought of pesticides and chemicals in our food rather alarming. In my first pregnancy, all the food I ate was organic, and my children were weaned on organic vegetables and fruit, but keeping it up is so costly…
These days, there are only a few products I buy organic every single time: coconut oil, Organix treats for the children and I (the oaty bars are addictive!), Rachel’s Greek style bio-live yogurt, nut butters, carrots & avocados. The nationwide ‘Wake Up To Organic’ campaign takes place tomorrow and over 10,000 free organic mini breakfasts will be available in the morning. Click here to find a local store near you as well as recipes from chefs supporting the campaign.
It is really simple to make the switch and breakfast is a great place to start so you can wake up to organic food. Although we are on a budget when it comes to food (and pretty much anything!), it is a realistic challenge to switch breakfast to organic as it will not be such a shock to my bank account as it would be to try (and without the shadow of a doubt fail miserably) and switch every single meal to organic food.
My Organic Breakfast Week so far
So far this week, I have had a couple of organic breakfasts. Yesterday was more of a brunch, really. I had made a seeded loaf over the weekend, so I topped it with mashed avocado, crumbled Feta cheese and a sprinkle of hot chilli powder (all organic). A minute or two under the grill and a strong cup of coffee in hand (organic too!) and I was in heaven!
This morning, I had my favourite yoghurt (if you haven’t tried it, give it a go!), Rachel’s organic Greek style coconut yoghurt, topped with organic granola. I also had fruit and an espresso (yes, it was this kind of morning when you need a shot of coffee!).
What’s the best breakfast you’ve ever had?
Disclosure: I was sent a range of organic breakfast products but I was not compensated in any other way for this post. All opinions are my own.

I miss food from Bosnia, a country I come from. I was brought up believing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day (food like breakfast cereals never existed) so, my mum always insisted we all have a WHOLE feast before we left the house :). My favourite breakfast (now I make it for my own family) was ustipci with my grandfather’s home made cheese and ham and my mum’s home blackberry jam. I am traveling to Bosnia August and I CAN’T WAIT to enjoy the most delicious food on the planet 🙂 .

Several years ago we had a family holiday in Antigua in a very small resort on a private cove. To get to breakfast, we had to walk about 500m along the beach to a little verandah restaurant. They had all manner of tropical fruits on the buffet, freshly baked bread and muffins, and would also cook you any items from a full English, American breakfast waffles and pancakes. The food was great, the view of the bay was amazing, and it was very intimate with only half a dozen tables or so, not like a big impersonal hotel restaurant. We still talk about those breakfasts.

Oh my word, my best breakfast ever? That’s quite a tough choice to make… Actually, thinking about it I know it has to be the full English Breakfast brought to us in our hotel room the morning after our wedding 🙂 We had a very budget wedding and never had a honeymoon, so my parents paid for us to spend the night in a lovely hotel overlooking the Arboretum where we’d had a mini photoshoot the day before (with friends as photographers – I did mention the budget wedding, right?!) Sitting on the big bed, with Saturday Kitchen on the TV (we married on a Friday), and my new husband by my side has to be one of the best memories. I don’t think breakfast has ever tasted so good – it’s not just about the food is it, the company makes the meal!
