Siblings – May 2018

Fun with the Little Ones, Kids' Corner

Another month gone by, another update about my little bunch, my siblings… how on earth does time go so quickly when you’re a grown up? My children are always wishing time away so they can enjoy the next party, the next holiday, the next birthday, but all I want is for things to slow down, so we can all enjoy the present and the little things. I know too well that I only have to blink once or twice and they’ll be all grown up and ready to fly away from the nest!

I find focusing on the bond between my four month after month absolutely fascinating. I love sitting back to observe the way they interact with each other, the bickering, the negotiations, the unconditional love and the laughter…

There’s no hierarchy between them, no “I’m bigger than you so you have to do what I want to do!” and I absolutely love the fact they each have their place in this little family and are all equal as siblings.

The older two don’t feel entitled to dominate conversation or pick play activities and the younger ones are confident enough to put their points across and speak up when something is not to their taste.

They play together as a duo, trio or quattuor. When they need their own space, they’re quite happy on their own too.

There isn’t one child speaking louder than the others or casting a shadow over less confident siblings, although meltdowns, rage and whining happen on a daily basis (what kind of children never have tantrums?).

Here are the words that spring to mind when I think of my four (aged 3, 5, 7 and 9) at the moment:

  • Fun
  • Play
  • Crazy
  • Arguments
  • Negociation
  • Togetherness
  • Moaning
  • Accusing each other
  • Hugs
  • Inseparable
  • Loud

Gosh I love my little gang.
