Snapshots & Scenes from October

Fun with the Little Ones, Kids' Corner

Right, I am ‘a bit’ late with my Snapshots and Scenes this month, oops. I have spent the past three days stuck in bed, doing nothing but sleeping, drinking water and feeling sorry for myself. It turns out I have the flu AND tonsillitis (gosh, you couldn’t make these things up, could you?). Anyhoo… I think the antibiotics and Codeine are starting to work their magic, and my brain seems to be able to cope with a little bit of typing and photo editing.

A few months ago, I started filming little snippets of our lives. I’d never really done that before. I had tried to capture the milestones, the ‘big’ moments like the first steps, the first bike ride without stabilisers, bits of Christmas concerts and daring first attempts on the zip wire at the park. What I wasn’t recording was the everyday stuff, the ‘little things’ that make me feel so happy.

During the summer,  a group of fab creative bloggers and I came up with Snapshots & Scenes, a monthly project focusing on video and photos. The idea is simple: as you are enjoying the little moments with your family, record them on camera or film and share your favourite bits with us, ideally through photo and video.

On the first Monday of every month, I now put together a short video of no more than 60 seconds, to capture the essence of the month just gone. I generally start with about 30 minutes of footage, and although it is tough to select a clip rather than another, or to trim it so much that only 1 second remains, it is also pretty satisfying to see those snippets of our daily lives, the absolute gold nuggets from our month just gone. I have a lot to learn, so bear with me, but I’m having fun! Just scroll to the bottom to join us!

  • A trip to our happy place, Sweet as a Button
  • Art club
  • A really long bike ride (and getting lost in the process)
  • Making slime
  • Board games
  • A day in the woods
  • Feeding ducks and swans
  • Jumping in muddy puddles
  • Park shenanigans
  • Lots of parties, including Jumpy’s birthday party
  • Half term fun
  • Jumpy’s 5th birthday
  • A few negative food challenges
  • Cooking together loads
  • New French passports
  • Kidzania
  • The Natural History Museum
  • A whole day on my own with Crevette

On the first Monday of every month, I like to put together a little 'Snapshots & Scenes' video. This is our October in just 60 seconds.

I love your video this month, Mel – really gives me a sense of your time together just doing ordinary things. Flu AND tonsillitis? What a double whammy! Hope you are feeling better.

Thanks Chloe. I really love looking back at those ‘normal’ days and feeling like we’re making the most of the time we have together, really 🙂 Still under the weather (and in my dressing gown), but starting to feel human(ish) again xx

Thanks Leslie! I love half term, when I can spend lots of time with my little ones and take as many pictures as I want (I did take loads!).

It’s the same for me: I keep thinking about my little video pretty much every day and I love adding snippets of our lives when I can. I just filmed my boy chopping onions whilst wearing goggles hahaha! I always struggle so much to keep it to 60 seconds, especially with my intro ‘stealing’ 12 seconds of it (shock, shock, horror!). xx

Oh no Jenny, I hope you’re starting to feel better soon. It’s just dreadful when you’re too ill to get up, isn’t it? xxxxx

Me too! There’s something timeless about splashing in puddles, isn’t there? I will never tire of watching my children do it 🙂

That’s a lovely video and photos of the month. Hope you’re on the mend now.

I rarely remember videos because I’m always doing photos instead. Maybe on some everyday trips I just need to do video instead.

      Feeling so much better now!

I was the same with video. What I do now is I tend to take my photos first and then turn the camera on video mode to film tiny snippets. I love it! On video, you really capture their personality, their energy straight away 🙂

Oh I do hope you’re feeling better now, that’s not a great combination. I love the every day feel of your video, it made me laugh watching them on the park together riding the swing!

I feel so so much better now, thanks my lovely! I am in love with this little project, and I keep filming tiny clips when they’re doing ‘normal’ things. It makes me so happy to capture their everyday on film. xx
