We are a Soft Water Family!

Home Sweet Home, Makeovers

Last month, Warren and Chris from Harvey Water Softeners came to show us the differences between hard and soft water (read about it here). After their visit, I could not wait for our water softener to be installed. A week later, Darren, plumber for Harvey Water Softener, arrived at our house as I was getting everyone ready for school, and he embraced the chaos.

After looking at the various options available for the location of our softener, we decided to have it under the sink. Within three hours, it was all fitted and we also had filtered water on tap: what a luxury! My old Brita filter has now been recycled and the convenience of having filtered water on tap is incredible!

Watch this little video to see what we think:

Just to sum it up, here are the reasons why I would not go back to hard water:

  • No limescale
  • Less cleaning (bye, bye limescale!)
  • Less shower gel needed
  • Going back to more natural soaps and cleaning products is much easier without limescale
  • We now only need about ½ the detergent we used to use to clean our clothes
  • Dishes are much cleaner in the dishwasher and the cloudiness on our glasses is starting to disappear
  • No need to descale the kettle, washing machine or put salt in the dishwasher
  • Lather in the bath (no soap scum!)
  • Nice filtered drinking water on tap, great tea and coffee, with no floating limescale bits!

We are a Water Softener Family

Disclosure: We live in a hard water area and we have teamed up with Harvey Water Softeners for 2016. We will bring you regular updates about what it is like to be a softened water family. We were gifted our water softener but all photos, videos and opinions (unless otherwise stated) are my own.

I’ve been thinking about getting a water softener for years. We have very hard water where we live and it affects us in so many ways. Wasn’t sure where to start so this is helpful. Thank you.

Have you seen my previous post about water softeners (I’m sure I put a link somewhere in this post)? There’s a video that shows you what this one does. It’s seriously amazing and I wouldn’t live without it anymore! x

Oohh interesting! I don’t think our water is an especially hard water, but then I’ve never investigated! How would I find that out?!

There’s a link to Harvey Water Softeners’ website in the post. They’ve got a tool that tells you how hard the water is in your area (you just have to enter your postcode).

This post was very helpful! I live in an area with very hard water & it shows in my skin & hair. When I visit my family in a soft water area my skin clears up!

I had no idea you could actually get water softeners for in the home, that is so interesting. We live in such a hard water area, this might be a really good idea. x

I dream of showers with no limescale, I have tried everything recently to remove it but it is impossible! Never realised hard water has an impact on skin conditions too!

It really is incredible! I used to use almost a bottle of Viakal on my shower every week but since we’ve had the water softener installed, I’ve not used it once (or needed to deep-clean the shower for that matter!). x

I don’t know if I’m stupid but I’ve never heard of hard and soft water?! The benefits of what you’ve changed to our great though x

You’re probably in a soft water area then! If you lived in a hard water area, you’d know 🙂

We swear by our water softener. We live in a hard water area and washing machines and dishwashers normally have a short shelf life with us. Since having a water softener we have had no issues at all *touches wood*

We are in a hard water area, so am wondering whether this would be something we should look at.

Everyone at Harvey Water Softeners is really friendly and helpful (they wouldn’t try to sell you something you don’t need!). You should give them a call. They even do trials, and if you’re not 100% satisfied after 3 months, you get your money back! I would not go back to my pre-water softener days!
