Hotel Chocolat Yule Log

When Hotel Chocolat sent us one of their Chocolate Yule Logs, I was impressed. Not only does it look absolutely delicious, but it is also completely different to the bûche from my childhood.

I have to admit I am not a fan of the overly sweet, cream-filled French dessert. I always find it too filling at the end of a copious dinner. Whenever we celebrate Christmas at my mum’s, we have a tropical or red fruit ice cream yule log rather than the traditional chocolate and chestnut cake.

Just in case you were wondering, we have not had our Hotel Chocolat Yule Log yet. I am keeping it for Christmas day. Hotel Chocolat designed the festive treat by putting an elm branch through a 3D scanner, how clever is that?

The log is a chocolate treat rather than a cake. It is made of 50% milk chocolate praline with hazelnuts and crisped rice, and is finished with white chocolate that looks like fresh snow on the log.

It should be easy to slice and will serve 14, which is perfect for our family gathering. Rather than having it straight after Christmas lunch, we will have it afterwards with coffee or tea, when we are all chatting and relaxing in the living room and the children are running around and playing with their new toys.
